Hoover - we rescued him from a shelter and I would never give him back. How about you? What are five things that you could never do without?
Sewing - of course!
Physical Sunscreen (titanium dioxide) - it's a lot of $$ ($29 for a tube) but it protects better than any chemical sunscreen.
Singing - it doesn't cost me anything anyway
My Steinway Piano - I bought it with a bonus from work. It's my prized possession, and I would find a way to keep it
ETA - it's 10:51, it's 30-3, not the Pats. I'm going to bed. Good night...

I can't wear chemical sunsreens, and the one I like best, from Shiseado, is more than that, so what are you using?
Nancy, I use EltaMD. I buy it from my dermatologist. My sister had melanoma and is a survivor, so I am very careful about sunscreen.
Wine - we have a, ummm, significant stash so no worry there.
Sewing - natch, and ditto on the stash. That goes for my other needlework habits and the ones I inherited from my grandmother.
Gardening - can do for very little. Time to divide those daylilies and hostas!
Digital piano - the electricity has to be on, but otherwise I would never sell it. I love being able to plug in headphones so no one has to listen to me "practice"!
Gym - it keeps me sane and healthy and strong.
You have a Steinway? I am so jealous. I wish I could play better so I didn't care if people could hear me. Maybe I should practice more ... ;)

Living by myself. I've been tossing the idea of a roommate around ever since my oil bill doubled. But, I just can't pull the trigger.
Assuming we're only talking material items:
Internet
DVR
Sewing
vehicle (need it for my job)
*The roof over my head
*Eating - I can cut corners, but one does need to ingest from time to time
*High speed internet
*NY Times subscription
*Netflix
I can sew off my stash for about a year, but then it would get difficult.
The time has come for me already I was unemployed for nine months and recently found a temp job I gave up cable TV, limited my driving to only necessary trips cut down on using utilities . Have not been in the dept stores ,was seriously considering a roommate type arrangement as I am single and then got a temp job . God is good
Hi,
Decent coffee! Life is way to short for bad coffee!
Enough Gas to visit my grand daughter an hour away
Fabric now and then
I feel like I've already whittled life down to the minimum. College, then grad school, then grad school again, each one in a different state and no money for movers, will do that. So my non-negotiable
- My sewing machines and accessories. Well, the junker could go. But the other three are mine.
- Elanor, my dressform. I love using her for everything from draping to holding the patterns to showing off my stuff
- Good coffee. With cream and sugar. I had to give that up once already because I couldn't afford the milk and that was a dark, dark day.
- My mini van. We've been together 18 years now and she's never let me down. Plus by now the driver's seat is perfectly molded to me.
- My laptop. I finally have a computer that doesn't burn my legs, shut down when jiggled, or flash funny colors for no reason. I love it!
Chocolate - really good and commercial chocolate
My sewing machine(s) - as long as you have a machine, you can teach and earn a few bucks.
My computer - Keeps me tuned in outside my daiy existence
My 2002 Pontiac Firebird - Last year of production, I just wouldn't drive it much
Sadie and Lady Beatrice, our puppies.
I have the same problem with money and sewing...not enough money or fabric stashed away for a rainy day!
My sewing machine - though I would have to spread the annual maintenance out!
Mountain Dew - ummm, can't live without that one!
Cable - without cable I have no tv or internet - just ain't happening.
Giving up buying fabric would be really hard but I have quite a collection so I think I could stand it...
Books - I guess I would have to learn to use the library again...
Otherwise, I could scale back the rest of the things!
Cable and DVR
Eating out occasionally
Traveling, even if it's just a cheapo weekend getaway
Books
Tickets to cultural events (I'll cut back but won't give up entirely)
Oops, I forgot quality sheets with a high thread count. I may give up eating out occasionally for those.
- $30 cleanser from the Vanity Doctor (I could ditch my $60 sunscreen from same - if I didn't have the job which required the welding-mask equivalent sunscreen, I can use the $25 stuff)
- fabric+pattern+thread as required (but there would be a lot more sewing than stash building)
- a nice cuppa and a good read from time to time
- good bras (a worthwhile investment!)
-mascara and lip balm
I'm another person who has given up a lot at one time or another for various reasons (eg. living in tent for months for geolgy work when allowed max 50 pounds of personal gear)and these are my must have items.
1. Sewing (of course). By which I also include my machines, any service they need, and occasional fabric binge.
2. My cats. Hungry loveable little beasts that they are.
3. The occasional dinner out. I love to cook but sometimes it's just nice to be waited on.
4. My house - it's not just shelter, working on it is my main therapy. And it shelters me, the man and my cats. And my fabric.
5. My independence. Priceless.
Oh my goodness! Let's see...,
Sewing - No way no how.
Fabric buying and my sewing machines
Independence - (like Karen said, "it's priceless.")
Sharing (Acts of Kindness to others)
Living independently
1) Sewing.
2) Our chickens.
3) My grandmother's pastry board. Its rock maple, 22 inches x 31 inches and is at least 60 years old.
4) Almay One-Coat Mascara. Been using it for 20 years.
5) A good haircut.
