These Instructions Suck!

Can I just tell you? The instructions for this pattern suck with a capital SUCK. Really. I emailed my friend Camille, who successfully and beautifully made this dress, and I asked her if I have suddenly taken a turn into stupid-land. No, she reassured me, the instructions truly do stink to high heavens. She even said, "I really didn't make the dress so much as my interpretation of the dress." She couldn't make heads nor tails of the instructions either.

This dress is putting me in a bad mood. Add to that the fact that DS the youngest brought home some nasty sinus bug that has infected all of us and it adds up to not much going on. But dammit, today I'm going to conquer this thing. So stay tuned and I hope you have happier sewing than I am at the moment!

Looking at those pattern pieces and the stock picture, it reminds me of the Jalie Criss Cross top, where the pieces insert into the side seam and you have a "skirt" underneath. The pain with that was making sure everything made it into the sides evenly.

Audrey at Sew Tawdry made this dress as well and had some issues working with it as well. It is truly a lovely dress pattern!

Hang in there! If anyone can figure it out, you can! I truly appreciate your honesty though, so I won't chicken out and return it (yet)...

Oh cr*p - if YOU are having trouble, what hope do the rest of us have!? At least I won't be making it for a while. By then I'm sure you'll have sorted it out and explained it as clearly as always. (Pretty please with sugar on top? :-) )

Perhaps contacting the pattern company and asking for some explanations would be in order? This happens frequently, especially with designer patterns.

You are ahead of me. I looked quickly at your previous post showing the pattern pieces and thought you were cutting out a border print!

Oh, man, don't say that. I bought fabric for this pattern! I have faith that you will figure it out...and pass on the how-to's to us.

oh no. Well, I am going to be eternally grateful that you're blogging about it and you're going to solve the issues, since it's the ONLY Vogue pattern I've purchased this year, and I was hoping to make it up next month. Argh.
Thank you Anne, shall those of us who want you to pave the way send chocolates? or wine?
