My friend Carla recently came back from a trip to Brazil, and brought me a magazine called Manequim. It looks like a combination of Redbook and Burda WOF. It has patterns for some really cute garments in it! Here are a couple from the website:
I have the March issue, which is all about blazers. I don't know if this magazine is available here in the US. The next town over from me has a big Brazilian population, so maybe I'll ask at some of the stores there.
I don't speak or read Portuguese, so I'll be flying blind, but if I get some time (ha!) I'll trace off some of the patterns and see how they look in muslin form.
ETA on 4/28
A big shout of thanks to Belinda at Sew-4-Fun for pointing out that you can download all the patterns directly from the website. Thank you Belinda!!
Happy sewing!

That last jacket is AWESOME!!!
Agreed, I love that last jacket.
Very cool! Interesting that the dress/Vestido pattern shows a woman's figure and says Rectangle/Retangulo. Giving ladies ideas on what to make for their body types? And it is a very cute dress.
Portugese is very close to Spanish. Brazilian Portugese maybe less so but still if you know anyone who speaks Spanish, they might be able to help you translate the pattern.
How cool is that? I love that jacket. Is the skirt included too?
That magazine is sold in Portugal too, though with some delay. It gets sold out really quickly too so I don't get all the issues... I plan on trying out a Manequim pattern or two in the near future (there’s at least a jumpsuit pattern that I like, in the January or February issue). The only set back is the fact that most patterns are featured on a single size... If you come across any doubt, I can help you with the translation, of course.
Cool !
Sigh, another pattern magazine I 'need'.
There are a number of these BWOF magazines out there and I wish they were more available - especially to those of us in the hinterlands! We actually get the Pony Express every once in a while, so we do get delivery services!!! ;-)
Ann, you may not be aware of this but these patterns can be downloaded for FREE from their website, including that great jacket. Here is the link -

I'm not sure why but they are there to be downloaded at no cost, although the sizes are very limited. If you look around the site they also have other free downloads.
I've never sewn any of the patterns before (not enough hours in the day) but I thought you may like to pass this on to your readers, for anyone who wants to try these patterns.
I just checked out the pattern for that jacket - very interesting! Not knowing a word of Portuguese (beyond obrigada) I would also be flying blind, but even more so without knowing how they size their patterns. Is there a size chart somewhere on their website, or could you scan it?
I am loving the difficulty ratings! "Requer muita pratica". No kidding!
Cool. Another great source for patterns. I've already downloading two patterns. Thanks!

Thanks for the new pattern source! I love me a good blazer. Google Translate worked pretty decently for converting the directions. Some sewing terms must not be in the database though.
I hope this helps. Just go to google.com , click "Language Tools" immediately to the right of the seach box under the google banner. Look at the "Translate Text" area. In the drop down boxes, select your current language, and then select what you want to translate it in too. Click the "Translate" button and VOILA you are instantly multi-lingual!
(I freak out my hispanic students doing this!, Just when they thought their teacher was a numb-skull, she pops up with this. If only they knew that I don't understand a word!)
