Vale, Fred Bloebaum

Fred Bloebaum, owner and designer of La Fred Sewing Patterns, passed away yesterday. How very sad for the sewing community. I met her once, and she was a delightful lady. She was gracious, and generous with her knowledge. She will be sorely missed.

This is terrible news, she can't have been very old. What a loss.

Thanks for posting this. I never met her, but I remember articles she wrote for Threads that were wonderful.

The sewing community certainly has lost some lovely ladies recently. They will all live on in their writings and teachings.

I am so sorry to hear that. I admired her and love many of her pattern designs.

Thank you for posting this sad news. I was always delighted by her patterns and her articles. You may not know, but her patterns and articles were referred to and used by the sewing community here in Australia. Sincere condolences to family all who knew her.

Oh! I just saw something recently about acquiring her website or somethingsimilar. I wasn't sure what that was about. I am stunned to learn she passed away. I took a sewing class from her about three or four years ago at the National ASG conference in DC. I enjoyed her class and she was a super teacher.

I never took a class or bought one of her patterns, but even so, I'm sorry she's gone. The sewing industry needs all the well-respected, admired and loved people it can get. She's leaving a gap that will be hard to fill.

Living in the Bay area, I took more classes from Fred than I can count. She was a creative, patient, gifted teacher. She was also very funny - she had an infamous off color remark about a mass-market line of notions, "If it's Dritz, it's the &%$#@."

Ironically, I was registered for a class yesterday at Stonemountain and Daughter, the Berkeley sewing hub where she taught for years. I can say that her spirit was very much alive there yesterday. We will miss her.
