I made a muslin of the Lady Gray coat to test the fit. I've never used Colette patterns before and I have no idea how their sloper compares to the slopers other patterns use. I'm very glad I decided to make a muslin. Check out why. Here are a couple of pictures of the muslin on me.

When making certain garments, like camisoles, I use  fold-over elastic to bind the raw edges.  This gives a bulk-free finish  that looks very RTW.  To do this, remove the seam allowance from the  edge to be bound.  Then, fold the elastic over the trimmed edge and  stitch using a narrow zigzag stitch (I use 1mm width on my Pfaff). A dress for vacation! I'm going to make Vogue 8658. I like the clean lines of the dress. I can just toss it on, slip into a pair of sandals and head out. My Father-in-Law passed away yesterday. He had been sick for a number of years with a disease called amyloidosis. But it was still a shock to lose him. Alan was a wonderful, gentle man and a fantastic father. It was really saddening to see how the disease decimated him physically. He retained his mental faculties, and his sense of optimism and humor, until the very end. We had the Subaru towed to our mechanic on Sunday, hoping that it would be a fuel pump or an alternator. On Monday morning, the mechanic called and said, "The timing belt snapped. Which got me thinking - are patterns from the Big 4 (Butterick, McCalls, Simplicity, Vogue) that much worse than those from independent pattern companies? What is it about the Big 4 that seems to incite such scorn in the sewing community?

But I have made some progress. Here's the dress so far:
 It needs a neckline band (more on that in the review later) and it needs to be hemmed and pressed, so hopefully I'll finish it tomorrow or thereabouts. More later...

Yesterday I had my first chemo treatment. This all came as a bit of a surprise. The results from the surgery and pathology were great, but just as I was getting ready to set up for radiation, my oncologist called. It turns out there was a genetic marker that raised a red flag for her, so she wanted to send a sample out for more testing. Gigi and Phyllis suggested Knorr's onion dip and Bugles. Oh man, I can feel my blood pressure rising and my arteries hardening already.

OMG kittens, look at this! This gorgeous bouclé from the atelier of the Kaiser is so beautiful, so classic, and so classy that you will have a jacket or skirt from this for-evah (in Bostonian parlance)! This won't last. I put it up with little fanfare last night and already it's selling out, so don't miss it.
