I'm Still Walking on Sunshine

Now that I have had a chance to digest the goings on from Friday, I'm still on Cloud 9! As I told Tom and Lorenzo, that was one of the nicest Mothers Day gifts anyone could ever give me. And one of the really fun things was that Laura let me get up close and personal with her Finale Collection from Project Runway. So here are some pictures. Enjoy!

According to Laura, this was Camilla's favorite dress:

And who can blame her? It is a stunner. I didn't do a good job of pulling the skirt down. The beaded fringe is all inserted into seams on the skirt.
And the bodice? Hand worked, all of it. Can you say wowza?

That woman has the hands of an artist and the patience of a saint!

This is the final Finale dress, the one Camilla wore.

Again, all hand beaded, and simply stunning to see. And Laura hand-covered the belt with silk velvet. Superlatives aren't enough to praise the work on this.

This dress is so much more lovely in person than it looks in the picture.

Laura had an interesting comment that the finishing for this collection wasn't quite up to her usual standards. I'll tell you, even so, her finishing is better than most RTW, and even better than a lot of high-end designers.

This lace jacket was one of my favorites

Beautifully made, impeccably executed, and I love the pop of color! It was paired with a black skirt in the collection. I could easily envision Laura Bush wearing this to a semi formal dinner at the White House.

Finally, here's one of my absolute favorite pictures of the day. I call it "Salon Laura"

From left: Laura, Lorenzo, Truman, Nick and Tom.
What a fabulous group.

Happy Mothers Day to all!

Wow - you were right! The dress with the velvet belt is my fave - I love the colors as well as the contrast between the velvet and the beading.Phyllis

Thanks for all of the close-ups of the garments. They are awesome and it is even more awesome that she did all the handwork herself!

The clothes are lovely, but you know what really stays with me? Laura's relaxed manner and a home that is open and airy and orderly, but is a background for a family's many interests. I'm betting that her kids are encouraged to be unique individuals and are provided with the tools and atmosphere to do just that. Thanks for the glimpse, Ann!

Nice. I haven't seen the red lace jacket before. When did she show that?

Well, I am just green with envy! Those garments are just fabulous! Doesn't she really sew these beautiful pieces on her Viking or does she use an industrial?

Absolutely stunning pictures. Will we be seeing something similar in your collection reviewed here? I wish Truman was turned around in the picture so I could see him. One of my grandsons has the same unusual name, so I've been fascinated that Laura had a son by that name, too. (Impeccable taste in names, as well as fashion, I might add!)

How did you keep your hands off of them?

So...inquiring minds want to know...how is all this incredible inspiration going to percolate through into your next project? Hand beading?? What were you seeing in your head on the train ride home? I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

BTW...great pictures!!! Thanks for sharing your wonderful treat! (And a little part of my head says "And I talked to Ann on the phone a couple of times!") ;)

Oh, my. I try not to be jealous of anyone as my life is full enough as it is. But you got me close to the brink. Laura is fab. Just look at the company she keeps, which now includes you. What an unforgettable day that must have been. I would kill to see those dresses close up.
