Oooooh! Lookit What I Just Got!
New shears!
I have been a devotee of Kai Scissors' products since I first heard about them. I bought the gift set a couple of years ago, and I have been nothing but thrilled with them. I'm wicked hard on shears. I don't abuse them, and I certainly don't let my kids near them. But I was going through Ginghers, Fiskars, and just about every other brand at a 6-month clip. Even with JoAnn coupons, the dollars start to add up. Even more aggravating than the cost was the frustration of cutting a fabric and then having to recut parts of it because the scissors would leave nicks where they were dull. Then Jennifer Sauer (a former Threads editor) told me about Kai. I invested in a set and from the minute I got them, I was hooked. That was almost three years ago. They have stood up to the test of Ann quite well. But three years in my sewing room is like a millennium in other places. It was time to get another pair.
This time, I decided to upgrade to the Professional Shears. For not a whole lot more money, they promise to last longer. They are easier for me to handle, even than the Kais I already have. And they cut beautifully! I'll let you know how they stand up over time, but I can already recommend them. And now I'm off to use them!
Happy sewing!

I was wondering - what size did you get? Thanks:)
Ann
Ann, I got the 7230s, the 9 inch shears. I may spring for the 12 inch at some point in the not-too-distant future.

I have never tried this brand. I have not heard too much either positive or negative about the brand. Perhaps I lead a sheltered life. As much as you sew and the sewing related articles you write, these must be good to stand up to what I imagine you are constantly busy with.
Ann-
Do you use your Kai scissors to cut out and not a rotary cutter?
Dang it!! I just bought my first pair of grown-up shears--Ginghers. Wish I had known!!!!
A professional seamstress I know, home dec, swears by her Kai scissors. She is a recent convert.
You DO sew a lot so this suggestion may not help, but whenever Gingher scissors get nicked or worn, you can send them for sharpening and all you pay is the cost of them shipping your scissors back to you. They come back as if they're brand new.
I hope that helps! I have had the same pair of Gingher scissors for 9 years and they are magnificent.

Hi Ann I have a pair of Kia 10 inch tailoring shear they're over 15 years old and I've never had to sharpen them. I just holster them whenever they are out of my hands. They are GREAT scissors!

Ann, do you find them more comfortable to cut with? I too am curious as to weather you ever use rotary. I send my Ginghers off to be sharpened often, but am so tempted to try Kai's.
Just found your blog by doing a search of KAI scissors. I just got my set today and so far I like them. The question now becomes..can they handle me?
I can't tell you what a relief it is to know someone else has gone through scissors like I have! I thought I was the only one buying scissors every 6 mos or so for the same reasons as you.
