Next on the Table - a Pair of Pants

But not for me. I'm making a pair of black pants for DS the Younger using this Burda pattern:
Next week he's taking part in the Yankee Classic ballroom dance competition. That is a whole 'nother story that you'll get to hear all about later. He's been growing like a little weed of late, and his pants are all getting short on him, so I thought I would make him a pair from All You Need Is...RPL in black from Gorgeous Fabrics (of course). I have to say I am quite disappointed, but not surprised, at the dearth of decent boys' patterns. I didn't have the time or patience to go through my old BWOFs. This pattern will work fine for the competition next week, and I should have it ready in the next day or two.

Poor DS the Elder. I feel like he gets short shrift on my blog at times. Let me just be a proud mom for a moment. He's about to graduate from the middle school with a straight A average throughout his three years there. Last night was the school vaudeville, an exercise in excruciating boredom, punctuated by some really good bits. DS the Elder was one of the good bits. He played and sang "Imagine" by John Lennon. He was good! I've heard him practicing the piano, but he wouldn't let me hear him sing. I'll tell you, he did better than I ever could have. And he didn't sound the least bit nervous. I didn't get any pictures because he had his back to the audience while he was playing. Don't ask me why they set the piano up that way. But he did a great job and I'm so proud of him!

The hambone gene runs deep in our family. Stay tuned and happy sewing!

Tell me about the lack of boy's patterns! Decent girl's ones are scare, too. I do a lot of tweaking and keep a hold of any good boy's patterns I have.

Congrats to your older son! That's difficult to do in Jr. High. I've taught enough of that age level to know that there is a lot going on - big transition time - and keeping grades up seems to be low on many student's lists of things to do. Congrats to you to for being good parents, supporting him and enjoying his progress!

That's so weird, I just bought a Burda pattern for myself! There are no men's patterns anywhere, it's a little frustrating. Good luck with the project!

My son wants me to sew for him, but the selection is slim.

Re: DS the Elder. Straight A's with all the distractions of middle school!!! Fantastic - and congratulations to you both!

A champion dancer, a great singer. And proud parents. I love to hear stuff like that!

Congrats to DS the older (and younger too!) I hear you about the boy and men's patterns. I collect vintage mens/boys patterns, mainly because there are so few options available today. DH and DS like the vintage looks too

Yeah, I totally neglect my DS on my blog, and I feel bad about it, but I just can't get excited about sewing guy clothes. Can you believe our boys will be in high school?!!

Congrats to both sons!

I fell in puppy-love with my future husband when he was playing the piano at the 8th grade graduation...so many years ago.

Yep, not enough patterns for men or boys, but I think the pattern you chose for your son will be fab in the RPL !

Have you looked at Jalie for men's/boy's patterns? They have some men's figure skating patterns that would probably work well for dance.

I hear you about the lack of men's patterns though. And they don't even rate their own section in the pattern books!

Congratulations on your son's accomplishments. Great to hear about good kids coming out of good families.

I love burda boy's pants. I made my nephew a vest and pants with black denim that had white pin stripes, and lined the vest. With a black and white tie and white dress shirt he looks like something off Wall Street!
