So here's what I'm thinking. I'll leave the chiffon skirt on the worktable and come back to it soon. But I think I'm going to make this McCalls Pattern
in this fabric
It's a Loro Piana wool plaid that I bought from a high-end men's store that went out of business. I've had it in my stash for a while now. Although now that I am thinking more about it I may decide to make a pair of pants. I have enough fabric (4 yards plus, at 65 inches wide) to make both.What I like about the dress pattern is that it has bodice pieces for B/C/D cups. I'll still make a muslin, but that option makes life a bit easier. Oh, here's a helpful hint for you if you are thinking of working with wool. My friend Pam posted this tip on her blog about pre-shrinking wools. (Scroll down the page to the post titled "How To Pre-Shrink Wool...Fast and Easy at Home!") I tried it yesterday and it worked beautifully! Definitely pre-shrink her way when you are going to work with woolens. It turns out great and saves money.
It's pouring here today, so this will be a good project. My mojo and I will attempt to make a muslin and let you know how it goes.

I've used that tip for wool a couple times now and it works beautifully. I used it on some melton I purchased from you and it came out blanky soft. I'm wondering how it would work on woolens that aren't already fuzzy like meltons. Would it make them fuzzy?
I used that tip for the wool I used for my daughter's recent plaid skirt and it came out beautifully, too.

You guys are so different than ours here, high today is high 80's and tomorrow is supposed to be 91 and it has been raining. My kids are still wearing shorts to school. Then we have a front that will drop it to 70's.
Now, when you wear the wool garment, do you launder it the same way or dry clean it?
Oh, that fabric would be so pretty in that pattern. I think your plan to set the skirt aside and sew something that really interests you is smart. The skirt will be there when you're ready for it again.
Love your idea for the new dress . . . the fabric is to die for! As for the mojo, yours must be off with mine somewhere . . . I can't quite get geared up to finish up my Michael Kors/Vogue dress (about 1/3 done). If I leave my machine "up" and ready to go, perhaps I can get it done this week!
Hey, it's wool time and everything else (like the rayon knits in my case) are just going to have to take a backseat until we get this wool thing going. Dressmakers' delight! Love the wool!
